- What does it cost?
- A commission on what the contents sell for, agreed in writing before we start, plus the cost of the cleanout if there is one. There is no charge for the assessment.
- Do I need to sort anything first?
- No. Sorting first usually costs money, because people throw out the things that sell and keep the things that do not. Tell us what you are keeping and leave the rest.
- Do I have to be there?
- Not for the work. You are involved at the walk-through, at the catalog preview, and at the end.
- How long does it take?
- It depends on the size of the house, what is in it, and whether anything needs a specialist.
- What if I find something of my mother's halfway through?
- Items can be removed from the catalog before bidding opens, with no fee. After bidding has started, removal is more difficult.
- What happens to what does not sell?
- Your choice, agreed before the auction: donated with a receipt, offered to a secondary auction, recycled or removed.
- How are small valuables handled?
- Jewelry, coins, cash and firearms are secured and recorded individually before any sorting starts, and every hand they pass through afterwards is logged. You get that inventory in writing.
- When do I get paid?
- Within ten days of the last pickup, with a statement showing every lot and what it sold for.
- What if the house sells before you are finished?
- Tell us the closing date and we will work to it.
- Do you buy the contents outright?
- Sometimes, where a family needs it finished quickly. It pays less than an auction almost every time, and we will tell you what the difference looks like before you choose.
